Breathing More Deeply
Tao Porchon-Lynch, 98, winner of a Guinness World Records award as the world’s oldest yoga teacher says: “I practice breathing not every day but every hour. The problem is that people just take sort of a sniff. That’s not the breath. The breath has to come from deep inside, even from your feet.”
Tao Porchon-Lynch is referring to the Chinese saying: “A sick man breathes from the throat and upper lungs. An average man breaths from the middle lungs. The healthy man breathes from the abdomen, and the sage breathes from the feet.”
Full Body Breathing
Yoga uses the entire body to breathe.
Babies are natural abdominal breathers. As we age, stress, illness, and bad habits make the breath rise in our bodies. Here we begin to regain our youth with deep abdominal breathing.
